Monika Sprüth and Philomene Magers are pleased to present an exhibition of new paintings by David Salle at the Los Angeles gallery, the artist’s first solo exhibition in LA since 1997. Arguably the leading postmodern painter of the last forty-five years, Salle combines images from a variety of sources, all rooted in what the artist calls the “presentational mode.” His practice is grounded in the art of juxtaposition; his “style” is the integration of disparate, contrasting styles, all resolved into dynamic, highly malleable compositions. Salle’s image clusters are analogous to musical chords, in which notes, at precise intervals to one another, are struck at the same time, producing an emotional resonance.
David Zwirner is pleased to announce an exhibition of new paintings by Belgian artist Luc Tuymans on view at the gallery’s 606 N Western Avenue location in Los Angeles. The Fruit Basket debuted at David Zwirner New York in November 2025, and this presentation marks the acclaimed artist’s first solo exhibition in LA. Collectively, the works on view consider the pervasive atmosphere of fracture that is specific to the United States at this moment. Foregrounding the highly mediated state of contemporary experience, Tuymans reinforces a growing sense of dissolution through varied subject matter and formal approaches.
For her first exhibition in Los Angeles, Leiko Ikemura presents a range of works produced over the past decade that explore the relationship between the female body and the natural world; between the heavens and the horizon line, or as she describes it: “the place where two worlds come together”. This in-between space – straddling both light and dark, the sky and the ocean, as well as both interior and exterior worlds – is represented by a huge metallic mesh wave within the gallery, a dividing line and architectural feature designed in collaboration with her partner Philipp von Matt.

Sunset: THE JUBILATION OF THE BABOONS. The film is intended to visually capture the sense of waning consciousness as we drift off to sleep. It shows a container ship being loaded and readied for departure, sending huge quantities of raw materials, products and goods across the world. Steve shot the film over the port of LA, it was edited in part using AI software (Runway) and it has a completely original soundtrack. The reference to baboons is drawn from the Egyptian Amduat, which serves as the overarching inspiration for the project The Hours.

Special Screening, February 27: Sleep, a Film by Andy Warhol featuring John Giorno
As a special event on the occasion of the exhibition JOHN GIORNO: NO NOSTALGIA, the Marciano Art Foundation is proud to present a one night only screening of Andy Warhol’s epic five hour and twenty-one-minute silent film Sleep in conjunction with the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. Starring a young John Giorno, Warhol’s first foray into the world of filmmaking was made over several nights in the summer and autumn of 1963. The film shows twenty-two close-ups of the poet Giorno, who was briefly Warhol’s lover, as he sleeps.
By documenting a single action durationally with no dramatic narrative, Warhol turned film into something that could be treated like a painting hanging on a wall, or as Giorno himself put it: “the body of a man as a field of light and shadow.” Sleep became a legendary work of experimental cinema and marked the beginning of Warhol’s half decade focus on filmmaking as a central part of his artistic practice.
Sleep will be screened from 5-10:30 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026. All other galleries in the Foundation will be open for viewing during these extended hours.
Los Angeles artist Christopher DeLoach created two event-exclusive bumper stickers, each in a limited edition of 250, available to collect as tokens of attending this screening of Sleep here at Marciano Art Foundation.
