## From the organiser

With Rebirth — Between Body and Matter, Gaby Jonna explores the body as a porous site of encounter, continually shaped through contact with the world around it. Bringing together painting and sculpture, the exhibition considers the body as a sensing presence through which matter, landscape, memory and experience are encountered. The exhibition begins with a reflection on being in the mud: a place that may appear heavy or still, yet is full of life, where matter is continually decomposing, transforming and becoming nourishment for something else.

Across the works, Gaby Jonna explores bodily intelligence as a lived mode of
knowing. Breath, weight, touch and movement become ways of attending to
experience, while materials including bronze, wood, clay, linen and pigments
become sites through which sensation and memory can be held. Gesture, pressure and touch remain visible within the making, creating an ongoing dialogue between body and material.

At the centre of the exhibition is an interest in surrender: the moment when the
boundaries between body and world begin to soften. Through sustained attention
to sensation and presence, Gaby Jonna approaches making as a form of listening.
Forms move between emergence and dissolution, recognition and the unknown.

Rebirth considers how what appears separate may already be deeply connected.
Landscape enters the body; the body enters the landscape. What has ended
becomes material for what follows. Beneath the surface, something is beginning
again.
